In the wake of the latest Ryder Cup triumph, the national golf association is calling on the government to support their proposal to stage the premier women's golf event on English soil for the very first occasion.

This prestigious contest between the top women players of Europe and America has taken place twice in Scotland and in Wales but never on English territory. An official proposal has been assembled to stage it at The Grove within Hertfordshire in 2030.

Yet coordinators are seeking thirty million pounds to back the bid and at present only £10m has been secured. England Golf is urgently seeking public backing to underwrite the shortfall.

Negotiations to secure public funding started in early spring but a decision regarding if support will be provided is time-sensitive. The hosting rights for the 2030 match belong to the International Management Group who require a resolution within the current month.

According to the official documentation, England Golf believes that securing the event "offers substantial returns to the nation".

This facility has previously hosted major golf events and offers hotel facilities appropriate for the standards to stage a competition of this magnitude.

Funding Breakdown

To organize a Ryder Cup in Europe needs more than £400m while for the women's version the cost is approximately £30m.

"We are seeking circa £20m through Treasury support to guarantee it," the spokesperson declared.

"This amount to add to existing substantial funding from The Grove and England Golf as well as further investors we intend to put money in."

Time Sensitivity

The executive would not state that talks have reached an impasse, but admitted: "Certainly there exists a dilemma presently with regards to whether the government can fund such tournaments."

"The government has proven, from international sports, or female competitions, that they are prepared to provide funding for certain events."
